Rezekne is a city in the Rezekne River valley in Latgale region of eastern Latvia. It is called The Heart of Latgale, built on seven hills. It has a population of around 31.000 making it the 7th largest city in Latvia. Rezekne is situated 242 kilometers east of Riga, and at the intersection of the Moscow – Ventspils and Warsaw – Saint Petersburg Railways.

Also known as the Baltic Highway, a 610 km-long trunk road that leads from Moscow through Volokolamsk to Russia's border with Latvia. The road runs north of Moscow across the towns of Krasnogorsk, Istra, Volokolamsk, Zubtsov, Rzhev, Velikiye Luki, and Sebezh, ending up at the state border. It passes Moscow, Tver, and Pskov Oblasts. The highway forms a part of the European route E22 which continues across the border to Rezekne and Riga.
Additionally, Rezekne is the road turnstile to European route E 262. It begins in Kaunas, Lithuania and ends in Ostrov, Pskov Oblast, Russia. The section in Lithuania from Kaunas to the Latvia border, is named after A6 highway. The road follows: Kaunas – 214 km - Daugavpils – 90 km - Rezekne – 63 km - Ubylinka Border Crossing Station – 65 km - Ostrov.
From Ostrov the E 95 reaches in 55 km Pskov and in further 290 km Saint Petersburg, at the world famous Russian city.
